Dweller & Blank Forms present: A Free Talk with Theo Parrish and Mike Rubin
Nowadays
Dweller and Blank Forms are pleased to present a conversation between Detroit house music legend Theo Parrish and journalist Mike Rubin, building from the recent publication of Blank Forms’s ninth journal Blank Forms 09: Sound Signatures. The anthology’s centerpiece is a career-spanning, twenty-hour interview conducted over four days between Rubin and Parrish, going deep on the producer’s childhood in Chicago’s South Side, sculptural training, and collaborations, as well as considerations on how the social movements of 2020 have reshaped his practice and dance music at large.
Theo Parrish is a producer and DJ based in Detroit, where he runs the label Sound Signature. Born in Washington DC, Parrish is a leading figure in American underground dance music and a member of the house music supergroup 3 Chairs, with Moodymann, Rick Wilhite, and Marcellus Pittman. His most recent release is Free Myself with Maurissa Rose (Sound Signature, 2023).
Mike Rubin is a Brooklyn-based writer from Detroit.
